Welcome to Port Isaac Bay

Port Isaac is an historic fishing harbour, with whitewashed cottages crowding the narrow lanes.

It is located at the end of the B3267 between Camelford and Wadebridge in North Cornwall.

Local fishermen still set off from this harbour as their forefathers have done for centuries.

Barbara’s family fish from the crabber ‘Sharicmar’ continuing a tradition of 6 generations of crab, lobster and herring fishermen. At low tide both Port Isaac and Port Gaverne beaches are worth exploring as they abound with rock pools and sea life – a constant source of inspiration.

There are a number of  eating places in Port Isaac and Port Gaverne ranging in price and level of formality from a fish & chip shop, pubs with bistro food and restaurants serving international cuisine.

The renowned Mote and Wheelhouse restaurants are family owned and get much of their seafood direct from the ‘Sharicmar’.

The North Cornwall coast is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Coastal footpath runs through the grounds of Signal Field and there is excellent walking from the house in all directions, stunning views abound whichever route you chose to take.  Other activities such as the Camel Trail, voted best holiday activity in Cornwall, is only 10 miles away at Wadebridge.  Walk or cycle alongside the Camel estuary towards Padstow or Bodmin to see a great variety of wildlife. Cycle hire is available. Within a short drive (maximum 20 minutes) are the surfing beaches of Polzeath, the sailing centre of Rock and many golf courses.  The widely acclaimed Eden Project is a 40 minutes drive away.  Padstow, famous for many things, is within half an hour’s drive.  Just 10 miles to the north is Tintagel Castle.  Ryan Air offer flights from Stanstead to Newquay Airport which is 30 minutes drive from Port Isaac, the nearest train station is Bodmin Parkway and car hire is available.

To maximize your experience of Port Isaac and the area, we would recommend you combine your potting holiday with some sight-seeing and activities.  Days in the studio are charged individually so you could book 2-3 days’ studio time for  making and decorating at the beginning of the week, with a day or two in between (to allow your work to dry out and be fired), then another day or two for smoke/raku/glaze firing at the end of the week (as we are in such an exposed location, raku firings are subject to weather conditions).   However, the choice is yours and should you wish to just come and pot to your heart’s content, then do so.  Studio times run from 10 am until 5 pm Monday through Friday and 10-12 Saturday with tuition, but if you wish to work on alone for a while please feel free to do so.
